Nursing and Allied Health Scholarships with the Minimum Amount of Eligibility Requirements

This web page was updated November 2023.

Currently, the nursing profession is a "hot" career choice. Most of the literature predicts that there will be a high demand for Registered Nurses for a number of years to come. Depending on which route students want to go, a person can obtain an associate degree in two to three years or a bachelor's degree in about four years. Whichever way you go, it takes MONEY to fund an education. With the economy being the way it is, more and more students are trying to help fund their education through the use of grants and scholarships. Loans are a possibility, BUT students have to pay back loans. Grants and scholarships for college are a preferred choice of alternate funding for many students.

There ARE nursing scholarships available. However, nursing scholarships are like just about any other type of college scholarship, in that, some nursing scholarships are based on very specific, narrow, limiting eligibility requirements. Many scholarships are based on ethnicity, gender, age, marital status, field of study, military status, and more. We have seen A LOT of nursing scholarships limited to geographic location and a specific school.

The following information on this web page tries to list college grants and scholarships that have the least amount of eligibility requirements, or no restrictions, on who can apply for these nursing scholarships. Most of the following scholarships can be used for the school of YOUR choice.

We start out by listing nursing scholarships that just about any nursing student in the United States can apply for. Below this list will be a special list of nursing scholarships with some special or specific eligibility requirements. Towards the bottom of this web page will be more resources that can be found on the World Wide Web, including free scholarship search services, that can lead you to more nursing scholarships.

We have received requests from a number of people and organizations to list their forms of assistance for Nursing AND CNA students. For now, we have placed MORE sources of information for education and financial aid for nursing and certified nursing assistants towards the bottom of the page s under the heading: "Websites that List MORE Scholarships and Information for Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants."

PLEASE NOTE: BE CAREFUL:

We decided to write the following statement about being careful on applying for scholarships that MAY no longer be available. From our experience of trying to list scholarships that are currently available, we have found that many scholarships stay on the World Wide Web, although the organizations that at one time funded the scholarships, NO LONGER fund the scholarship. We have found that all the information is on the organization's web page, BUT, the date for applying for that scholarship may be a couple years old. Our best advice is that IF a scholarship is listed on a web page AND the date of application is more than a year old, then it is VERY PROBABLE that the scholarship is NOT AVAILABLE. Our best advice is that if you are interested in a scholarship that has older information, then PLEASE TRY TO CONTACT them to see IF the scholarship is currently being offered. Definitely, a number of organizations may delay funding a scholarship for a year or two. However, there are many scholarships that are found on web pages that have been there for years that have NOT been funded for years.

HRSA Health Workforce

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Sponsor: Health Resources & Services Administration

WARNING: This scholarship is kind of different than many other scholarships that we have listed on our website. PLEASE READ OVER the information supplied by the HRSA website about this scholarship. There appears to be very specific requirements placed on YOU if you receive this scholarship. For example, one statement on one of their web pages states "If accepted, we pay your tuition, fees, and other educational costs. In return, you work at a Critical Shortage Facility when you graduate."

Information leading to how to apply for this scholarship is on more than one web page, but a good place to start is at https://bhw.hrsa.gov/funding/apply-scholarship/nurse-corps.

Nurse Corps Scholarship Program Fact Sheet provides a one-page basics of the facts about this scholarship program. There are other "fact sheets" to view.

However, the main PDF to read is the "Application and Program Guidance" document. It is about 53 pages long. I will provide some parts of the document to give you a look at what this scholarship can do for you AND what you can do for the program.

https://bhw.hrsa.gov/sites/default/files/bureau-health-workforce/funding/nursecorps-sp-guidance.pdf

"The Nurse Corps SP is a competitive program administered by the Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) within HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA improves the health of underserved and vulnerable populations by strengthening the health workforce and connecting skilled professionals to communities in need. The Nurse Corps SP’s purpose is to provide scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year, full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent) at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses."

Page ten appears to provide a look at the scholarship money: "For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Nurse Corps SP will pay each full-time student a monthly stipend of $1,527 (which is reduced after federal income and Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes are deducted). The final stipend payment may be adjusted ± by a minimum amount of $0.01 due to rounding on the withholding calculation." Some of the eligibility requirements and award process starts on page ten.

Page 23 provides a lot of information on the service requirements. There are multiple pages about the service requirements. The first sentence under the heading of "Service Requirements" states "By accepting the Nurse Corps SP award, participants are entering into a contract with the Federal Government. Participants are required to practice at an eligible CSF located in, designated as, or serving a mental health or primary care HPSA with a 14 or higher score."

THERE IS MUCH MORE INFORMATION TO READ at their website.

The following scholarships are mentioned from information coming from SeniorAdvice.com. I have followed the Senior Advice.com Scholarship for a number of years. I am providing an OLD example of their scholarship. HOWEVER, it appears that SeniorAdvice.com no longer funds their own scholarship. Apparently, they have decided to list some scholarships for caregivers on their website. It appears that the scholarships listed are funded by other companies and NOT SeniorAdvice. I have about given up listing these scholarships and it is QUESTIONABLE how many of these continue to be active. The feeling that I get is that the organizations listed here want to provide financial help, BUT they seem to lack the effort or money to continue the scholarships. I will leave this information here for now, if you want to investigate if any of this information can help you.

SeniorAdvice.com Scholarship

Here is ANOTHER scholarship that we do not want to take off this list, yet. We will continue to mention this scholarship, for now. They DO provide a web page that lists scholarships for caregivers, BUT it appears that the scholarships mentioned are funded by other organizations and not SeniorAdvice.com. The list is located at https://www.senioradvice.com/scholarships.

ALSO, we found a web page at https://www.senioradvice.com/news-room/senioradvice-announces-spring-2020-scholarship-award that makes a person question that they MAY want to continue this scholarship? HOWEVER, at this time, I really think that SeniorAdvice.com does not offer their own scholarship. Their current scholarship web page is helpful, though.

The scholarship that WAS offered AT ONE TIME was:

Sponsor: SeniorAdvice.com Scholarship

At one time, SeniorAdvice offered more than one scholarship. The award for each scholarship WAS $1,000. However, now, it appears that one scholarship is offered worth $2,000. Part of the description on their website appears to be the same.

Eligibility Requirements: The student needs to be attending a two or four year college or university. The students needs to have been a caregiver to an adult relative. You will need to answer about five questions located at their website.

Old information wanted the answers to be in VIDEO format. HOWEVER, that requirement may have changed.

Please visit their website for more UPDATES about their scholarship.

Money: $2,000.

Contact Information is available at: https://www.senioradvice.com/scholarships

Caring.com Student-Caregiver Annual Scholarship

OKAY, I have listed this scholarship here for, at least, a couple of years. HOWEVER, I am NOT convinced that this specific scholarship is available by Caring.com. I will give the information that ONCE, was on their website, BUT this information is NOT there, now.

I WILL SAY THIS, THOUGH. Caring.com will list some scholarships for caregivers. At the time of this writing, I see about seven scholarships listed on their website, but the scholarships are funded by organizations other than Caring.com. https://www.caring.com/caregivers/scholarships-for-student-caregivers/

Here is what Caring.com use to fund:

Sponsor: Caring.com.

Eligibility: For students attending a U.S. university or college who have been caring for an older relative while attending school. Topic of the ESSAY is located at their website. A two-minute video is an alternative to the essay.

"We're looking for a 1500-word essay or 2-minute video addressing the following questions" and the questions are listed at their website.

Money: “Caring.com is offering two $1,500 scholarships to university students attending an accredited U.S. college or university who care for aging relatives.”

Contact: https://www.caring.com/scholarship

Student Caregiver Scholarship

Above, I mentioned the Caring.com Student-Caregiver Annual Scholarship. NOW, as far as I can see, the following scholarship WAS a recently active Student Caregiver Scholarship, BUT it is presented by Nelson Elder Care Law, LLC.

IT IS QUESTIONABLE if this scholarship is funded after 2022.

Sponsor: Nelson Elder Care Law, LLC. "Protecting the ones you love."

"We understand the challenges student caregivers face when trying to equally balance their roles as a caregiver and maintaining their studies. That is why we are proud to announce our Student Caregiver Scholarship to award $1,000 to one compassionate student who volunteers their time spending it with and caring for elderly adults."

Eligibility: The Student Caregiver Scholarship’s purpose is to award one compassionate student who spends their time helping elderly adults. This scholarship is open to those who volunteer with seniors either at a long-term care facility or nursing home, those who take care of an elderly family member, or those who help the aging in another way. We want to hear why you chose to help and care for the aging and how volunteering has shaped you.

Money: $1,000.

Websites that List MORE Scholarships and Information for Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants:

Although Grants, Scholarships, and MORE cannot endorse any website, we honor the requests of organizations to list their programs so that students can investigate which programs may be right for them.

YouTube Video:  How to Find College Grants and Scholarships is a short six-minute video that gives you an overall look at where to find college grants and scholarships. If you have no idea on where to start to find financial aid, then this video will give you a good idea on how to go about finding free money in the form of financial aid, grants, and scholarships for college or trade schools for a variety of groups of people such as nursing students, single moms, women, and just about any U.S. Citizen seeking scholarships with the least amount of eligibility requirements.

Fastweb is a scholarship service that is free. It is part of the Monster.com company. Fastweb is one of the more popular and recognized free scholarship search services. You need to register and make a number of selections for your profile. Like most of the free search services, if you do not like the results, then go back and change (edit) some of your original profile criteria and then perform another search. However, Fastweb continues to provide a list of scholarships without you needing to register. The list is located at https://www.fastweb.com/college-scholarships/featured-scholarships. Please view the menus found at the top of their web pages for finding more helpful information.

Scholarships.com is another good website to find information about college, especially financial aid. Please take a look at the menu at the top, bottom, and sides of their web pages to help you find more information. Over the years, Scholarships.com has gone the way of many scholarship search websites. At one time, they provided lists of links to a lot of scholarships on a variety of their web pages. However, it appears that they want you to register in order for them to provide a list of scholarships that they feel will match what you looking for. However, Scholarships.com continues to provide some menus that will provide a list of scholarships, without needing you to register. The lists are located at the bottom of the financial aid page at: https://www.scholarships.com/financial-aid/. In my opinion, Scholarships.com continues to be a very good source for finding financial information.

ACLS Medical Training.com offers a list of medical-related scholarships.

MinorityNurse.com has a very good website providing valuable information for a variety of ethnic groups. MinorityNurse.com will provide a list of scholalarships at https://minoritynurse.com/scholarships/. The menu at the top of their web pages provides more information.

College Grants and Scholarships with the Minimum Amount of Eligibility Requirements is a Kindle ebook that lists approximately 150 college scholarships that have the least amount of eligibility requirements, so that just about anyone can apply for these scholarships. This ebook needs to be updated, BUT many of the scholarships listed in this ebook continue to be active. There are only so many scholarships for a specific group of people, whether it is Hispanic, single mothers, women, nursing students, veterans, or other groups. This ebook will provide a list of more available scholarships. Some of these scholarships require writing an essay while others require filling out just an application. There are NOT many scholarships available without specific, limiting criteria. There are many resources that will list thousands of scholarships, but a majority of them will have very specific requirements that prevents many students from applying to most of the scholarships listed in the resources. However, this Kindle ebook lists scholarships that most people within the U.S. can apply for. If you do not have a Kindle, you can download the free Kindle Previewer in order to view Kindle books on your PC at http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1000765261 OR https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/help?topicId=A3IWA2TQYMZ5J6 . We know how difficult it is to format documents for the Kindle so the formatting might be kind of strange for some of the text. However, we find the text tolerable and the links work.
